Weekend breakfasts are a time to reconnect with family and relax! Use this awesome french toast bake to make breakfast prep easier and spend more time enjoying the conversation.
- 1 Brioche loaf (this can be found in the bakery area or you can use Hawaiian bread!)
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (if you don’t have this just substitute with another 1/2 cup milk)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 10 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 4 tablespoons cold butter
- 5 tablespoons flour
To start, butter a 13×9 baking dish and set aside.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Cut your loaf into small cubes and dump them into the dish spreading them out evenly.
In a medium sized bowl whisk together 10 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Pour whisked mixture over the cubbed brioche in your prepared dish.
Next, work on your crumble topping! You can skip this step if you want but it does add little pockets of buttery sugary deliciousness to the dish. In a separate bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of cubbed cold butter, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cups brown sugar and 5 tablespoons of flour. I started using a fork but ended up using my hands to get the butter to incorporate a bit more.
Bake in your preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
To serve, cut into squares and drizzle with maple syrup!
You can easily add yummy additions if you want to spice this up a bit. Some ideas… chocolate chips, chopped pecans, cubed apples, peaches… Do what feels good!
